PAN card (Permanent Account Number) is an important piece of document that every Indian and Non-Indian citizens must own. Step by Step Guide to apply for PAN card
The IT department has made provisions for applicants to apply for pan through IT pan services agencies like National Securities Depository (NSDL) or UTI Infrastructure Technology (UTIITSL).
Step 1: Visit the NSDL site to apply for a fresh pan.
Step 2: Select the Application type – New PAN for Indian citizens (form 49A), foreign citizens (Form 49AA) or change/correction in existing PAN data or reprint pan card.
Step 3: Select your category – individual, associations of persons, company, trust, firm or body of individuals, etc.
Step 4: Input all the mandatory details like name, date of birth, email address and your active mobile number in the application form.
Step 5: After submitting the pan application form online, you will get an SMS on your mobile number concerning the next stage.
Step 6: In the message, you will get a link. After clicking on the link, you will be redirected to the new webpage where you have to perform digital e-KYC.
Step 7: In the first section, you have to adhere to certain guidelines then in the second section you will have to input all your details, in the third section you will have to provide your contact details.
Step 8: In the AO section, you have to enter your Area code. The last section of the form documents submission and declaration.
Step 9: After submitting, you will get a preview of the complete pan application form online. So, you can check if there are any mistakes and correct them. If you don’t want to make corrections then click on the proceed button.
Step 10: You will now be redirected to the payment section, where you can choose to pay application form fees either by a demand draft or by debit/credit/net banking.
Step 11: After the payment, you will receive the acknowledge form with the 16-digit acknowledgment slip. Print the form and fill in all the details. Attach two passport-sized photographs and sign on the form.
Step 12: Enclose all the necessary self-attested documents cited in the form (attach demand draft if you wish to pay offline) with the acknowledgment form.
Step 13: Send the acknowledgment form and documents via post to the NSDL office.
You will get an email after they receive the package.
Applying for pan offline is a tedious process. For applying you have to-
- Download and print form 49A from the link

- Enclose the self-attested photocopies of the required documents.
- Remark ‘APPLICATION FOR PAN-N-Acknowledgement Number’ on the envelope of the application form and send the package to the NSDL office via post.
After a successful application, the generated pan will be sent to the residential address of the applicant.
